Well, I'll probably catch a lot of **** for asking this, because I'm just not the young beautiful type. I have fine straight hair and I was growing it into the style that is stacked in the back and angled longer to the front%26gt; Problem #1 - all my friends say that I look terrible with the hair around my face - it makes me look fatter....and #2 - I'm tired of dealing with it day in and day out - I want a blow and go style - even if it's a bowl cut, but I don't want to look worse then I do now! Does ANYBODY out there have some constructive advice on how to have an easy cut that looks professional that won't make my face look old, fat, and tired? I like modern looks, and I am almost 53 yrs. old - Am I doomed?

Ask for a side sweeping bang and razor cut layers. You just blow dry it upside down and syle with your fingers to the desired look. It's simple, classic, and low maintenance as it grows out.

Take your time and find styles that look appealing to you. Do not ask your friends if they like it. Show your stylist and have them give you an idea of what each look would be like on you.
Or just have it custum cut to your needs.
Focus on what you like, not your friends

It's hard to imagine that your friends say that style makes your face look fatter. Straight hair, that frames the face generally makes it appear thinner. Is it very long? Shoulder length should be enough to draw attention to the straight lines and create the illusion of a longer, thinner face. Some height on top might help, but requires more styling.
Otherwise you could try using makeup to thin out your face. Using a slightly darker foundation, or powder, use it on the outsides of your face and blend well. Draw attention to your lips or eyes.

First of all if your face is as you say fat then you don't want a short hair style. You don't want something that will draw attention to a part of your body that you are uncomfortable with. To begin with I would say start with a shoulder length bob this is a classic cut, and will elongate the hair line drawing attention to the hair and not neccesarily the face. You can have your stylist razor the ends (if they are comfortable using a razor) which will give a soft modern look to the bob, or even add some long layers into the bob so that you can play with it several different ways, that way you could wear it straight flipped out, curled under, or curly. The possibilities are endless. The biggest problem is that you state your hair if fine, but is it thin as well. If so then you should not go for really long styles, or short ones, or anything stacked. Because the fact that your hair will then be unable to perform the look that you want will leave you depressed and upset and not knowing what to do with your hair I could go on and on so I will just say this, you should go see a hairdresser, grab a hair book from the store or at the salon, pick out some pictures you really like, let the hairdresser play with your hair (by this I only mean get a feel for your hair, to determine, thickness, how fine your hair actually is) and then ask them which style will not only look best but work best for what you want your hair to do. People do this all the time, and if you find a great hairdresser they will be willing to spend this time with you to help you out. Good luck, and no you are not doomed, you just need help!

I have a round face too, we need layers below the chin, that makes our faces look longer instead of shorter. you'll probablly want to make your layers a little shorter because of the thinness of your hair. Just talk to a stylist you knows about thin hair.

Have you considered layers? I'm thinking a razor cut similar to Victoria Beckham's latest only more suited to your age and face. If you got that sort of cut and used some Tigi Catwalk Root Boost and some texturizing hair product you could achieve the results you want - easy care and flattering. I have a round face and hair that sometimes lacks volume and I find that the root boost does wonders.
If I were you, I'd splurge and go to one of the expensive salons to get your hair done. The stylist can help you with a flattering cut and ideas about styling. If you're anywhere near Vegas, I highly recommend David at the Venetian's Salon - he's incredibly good - so good that I wish I lived closer to Vegas.
